Faisal is one of the leading eye surgeons in the UK performing highly complex cataract surgery, as well as innovative combined cataract and glaucoma surgeries. He is the first surgeon in the world to use a new glaucoma device in 2020, called the EyePlate, and is known to be at the cutting edge of new technologies and uses the latest available intra-ocular lenses.
He is regularly invited to speak and chair at national and international specialty meetings and conferences. (including the Royal Society of Medicine this year).
In addition, Faisal is actively involved in teaching surgeons the latest techniques and has regularly been a faculty member at national and international courses. Surgeons from abroad not only visit Faisal on observerships but also apply for formal training fellowships.
His papers are regularly published in scientific journals and he is also an author on new glaucoma surgeries on the national Royal College of Ophthalmology UK award winning NHS e-learning website.
Faisal has won prizes for his work nationally and regionally.
He was the national coordinator for World Glaucoma Day for 2 years. And is a member of the European Glaucoma Society and International Society of Glaucoma surgery.
He has been a longstanding volunteer for Humanity First and set up the medical supplies department as well as the Medical Disaster Response course and lead author of the original course manuals, upon which the UK government ran its first medical disaster response course as well.
Medical Recognitions
Mr Ahmed was also the UK National World Glaucoma Day Co-ordinator and a member of a national glaucoma body, the Glaucoma Alliance, working with charities and other stakeholders in improving glaucoma awareness in the general population and improving glaucoma patient care.
He spent in excess of five years training at Moorfields Eye Hospital as a junior and senior surgical trainee and then as Honorary Research Fellow in glaucoma.
Mr Ahmed is also an author for the Emerging Laser and Surgical Treatments for Glaucoma section in “ Eye-Site” – a national website developed by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in collaboration with e-Learning for Healthcare, to provide e-learning for ophthalmology trainees. He trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital for 5 and a half years.
